CAMILLA SANDERS

“What is music to you? What would you be without music?

Music is everything."

- Duke Ellington

Hi! I'm Camilla Sanders - Producer, Director, Vocalist and Multi-Instrumentalist in Marietta, Georgia. I love working with many genres of music, and lately I'm working on projects focused on Classical, Jazz, Bluegrass, Folk and Rock. Three decades of professional performance experience and theatrical event production have led me across the country.

Chapter One of my music story started at the age of five in Daytona Beach, Florida with piano lessons, as well as sing-along gatherings where guitars were passed around as a family tradition. I come from a long line of talented musicians, both classical and country. This is how our family found entertainment- playing with each other. Growing up in church, we served with our music on a regular basis. I participated in classical piano competitions, garage bands playing Bon Jovi and Stryper, high school marching band as a drum major, and as a pianist in a variety of community jazz ensembles and musicals. This led me to The University of North Florida where I had the honor of studying piano with Gerson Yessin, Scott Watkins, Harry Pickens and Kevin Bales.

Chapter Two had to be marrying Kevin Sanders and moving to New York City. This is where I would find my voice and my true love. I had no idea that I could sing. I knew that I would play Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday on repeat and could sing along word for word, but singing was not on my radar at this point. Kevin and I discovered that we could have fun playing music together, so I worked hard to learn to sing while he played piano. It was a joy and our music has woven a thread through our marriage to this day. We have been married for 25 years and have two beautiful children who are incredibly gift musicians themselves. They have conversed music since they were born, so they both play several instruments and excel in their school music programs.

Chapter Three - and this is the most important chapter to me. This is where I figured out that serving musicians and serving a music loving audience is my passion and what I'm meant to do with my life. Yes, I adore performing, but as you age it becomes the goal to pass the music to the next generation. Some find the fit with teaching. My husband is a wonderful teacher. I decided to serve in a different way. To become a caretaker of a gorgeous historic theatre stage. To fill that stage with as many incredible artists as humanly possible. To make sure every patron of that gorgeous historic theatre finds a live performance on that stage that they can relate to. It is my hope that they find something they love.

During my 30 years of this profession of live music, I've had a few low points where I wondered if being an artist is a worth-while profession. The past few years have affirmed this- now more than ever. During the pandemic our community reached for the musicians to connect- to break free of sadness in isolation. Even these last few weeks (I'm writing this just after the general stress of the November election 2024), our audience has been intentional in selling out the theatre every show because they need to be reminded that there is joy to be found. This is God's work. To serve musicians and that audience.

This is my story to this point. You will find more in the blog section, as well as posted events about the wonderful projects that I'm grateful to be a part of. Two of my favorite things are my work with The Georgia Players Guild since 2017 and The Strand Ole Opry since 2019. Enjoy the media section! Hopefully you will find a few laughs as well.

I hope you find joy in everything you do. Experience some live music and support your local musicians. Thanks for reading!
